5-axis machines are coming more and more and they naturally pose other challenges for the clamping devices. We will show you our 3 very interesting 5-axis clamping devices from GRESSEL.
With the 5-axis machines, we have swivel rockers or spindle heads that swivel so that 5-axis can be moved. This means that we have to come out of the machine table with the workpieces so that we do not drive collisions.
For this we need at the 5-axis workpiece clamping:
- Low interference contours – in order to get to the workpiece with short tools everywhere possible
- High holding forces for all types of workpiece material
- High flexibility and versatile range of bakery products
- Clamping accuracy OP10 and ideally also equal OP20 (6 sides workpiece complete machining)
- Simple and fast handling
- If desired – conversion for automation in the future
- Set-up on zero point clamping system
There are various selection criteria for the right 5-axis clamp. We have compiled several criteria for you:
First, of course, is the respective machine table size of the 5-axis machine.
We start with the small machine tables. Here, our C2 125 L-160 centering vise fits wonderfully, here clamped on a mechanical zero point clamping system plate gredoc NRS 3-fold. Secondly, we have here a C2 80 on an elevation as a typical 5-axis variant. On a small pallet in a pallet automation or directly integrated in an EROWA pallet (quasi pallet and clamping base body are one part here, so one is altogether much lower and gains corresponding machining height). Also on smaller machines our short and low grepos-5X-S with a base body length of 265 mm fits perfectly. Here in use our pendulum and adapter system for large or also bulky workpieces.
For medium-sized tables, we already have the full GRESSEL selection. On pallets automation again fits perfectly our centering vise C2 or also on a substructure as 5-axis centering vise. Our 5-axis power clamp grepos-5X in combination with our mechanical zero point clamping system plate gredoc NRS. Stainless, vacuum hardened and only 30 mm high, purely mechanical and therefore no air or hydraulic connection necessary. Here you can also see that we can clamp directly in the center with our gredoc NRS and therefore do not need an intermediate plate. Brand new our 5-axis clamp SC5X, here on a zero point clamping system plate VERO-S from our parent company SCHUNK GmbH & Co. KG.
Finally, the large 5-axis machine tables. Here, too, we have been able to equip a large number of machines, e.g. here with our grepos-5X (in C variant, i.e. both carrier jaws can be moved) with quick-change tie rod extension for fast changing of the complete clamping range. Also here this variant for clamping of a large plate. Our new SC5X on a 10-fold gredoc NRS zero point clamping system plate with base body length 630 mm and here still a grepos-5X-C on a 15-fold gredoc NRS plate with a ᴓ of 1000 mm. Here still bulk clamping with 50 kN clamping force and our C2 160 centering vise (jaw width 160 mm) with a base body length of 480 mm.
Another selection criterion for the suitable 5-axis clamp is, of course, the workpiece size and its machining. Further points are accessibility, set-up times (zero point clamping system / jaw quick change), 6th side production and automation yes / no.
A very important point for all GRESSEL tensioners is the handling. This should be as simple, uncomplicated and fast as possible in daily use. Here we always have good features in all our clamping systems to make daily work easier. Encapsulated spindle, jaws turn with screws, jaws quick change, lever quick clamping, etc.
