GRESSEL Clamping Technology Workshop: A Visit to August Müller
August Müller CNC-Zerspanungstechnik has been successfully using GRESSEL clamping technology for years. With D2 dual clamps on Hermle HS-flex pallet automation, gripos machine clamps, solinos 65 single clamps, and C2.0 center clamps in all sizes, there’s something for every application.
As part of a GRESSEL clamping technology workshop, distribution engineer Reiner Hartmann visited the company’s facility in Uelzen. August Müller CNC Zerspanungstechnik GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1946 and currently employs around 120 people. The company specializes in contract manufacturing, laser marking, and machining, serving industries such as mechanical engineering, energy, and medical technology.
The GRESSEL Clamping Technology Workshop
The workshop combines theoretical fundamentals with practical content related to the safe and efficient use of clamping devices in industrial settings. It focuses on the applications and basic principles of various clamping systems, their proper maintenance and servicing, and product-specific features.
In addition, practical, application-specific challenges are addressed, and potential solutions are developed collaboratively. Another focus is on best practices from day-to-day production, as well as on concrete ways to optimize processes and setup times.
Operation, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting: Hands-On Training in Three Stages
To address the varying needs of the employees at August Müller, Reiner Hartmann conducted two-hour training sessions for three groups.

In the first group, six trainees were trained in the core fundamentals of clamping technology. The focus was on selecting the appropriate clamping device for each machine, as well as the possibilities offered by the use of system jaws such as swing jaws, adapter plates, and prismatic jaws. In addition, various grip profiles—in particular the carbide grip and carbide coatings in general were covered. The session also included a discussion of general handling procedures for clamping devices and the measurement of clamping force.
The second and third groups each consisted of ten employees from the early and late shifts. The focus was on the proper handling, maintenance, and care of the C2.0, D2, and gripos clamping systems. The maintenance work was carried out collaboratively on-site. In addition, issues encountered during daily use were discussed, and any application difficulties that arose were resolved together.
